HELP FOR FIRE SURVIVORS

Rebuild Central is holding a three-part series of free workshops designed to help homeowners rebuild using energy-efficient and fire-resistant technologies, methods, and materials.

Rebuild Central is a one-stop, all-in-one resource for fire survivors looking for unbiased information about how to rebuild their homes and lives. Rebuild Central is a free, joint project of the California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE), United Green, San Diego Renewable Energy Society, and Architecture for Humanity.

The Greenprint Workshop Series will be held at CCSE’s central San Diego location. Visitors are encouraged to explore all the latest energy efficiency technologies, interactive displays, and resources that CCSE’s Energy Resource Center has to offer.

Browse through the vast array of books, periodicals, and DVDs in the Energy Resource Library, or borrow reading and data-logging instruments designed to measure performance and savings opportunities in the Tool Lending Library.

Ins and Outs of Fire Insurance Red Tape
Saturday, January 12th - 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
George Kehrer, a City of Oakland fire survivor, will present techniques to help fire survivors navigate around fire insurance red tape.

Your Taxes and the October 2007 Fires
Saturday, January 26th - 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Tracy Bolton, C.P.A., will offer her expertise and answer fire survivors’ questions on how to file taxes without any records.

REGISTER FOR EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION

CSUSM students and employees are encouraged to register online for notification in case of an emergency. Since the MIR3 system activated on 11/5, more than 1300 individuals have registered. Emergency Notification System Implemented

Beginning Monday, November 5, CSUSM students and employees can self-register online for notification in case of an emergency. Go to http://www.csusm.edu/ep/Alert to register. During an emergency, MIR3 (the off-site system) will immediately contact all those who have registered. Individuals will be able to update their secure file to keep the information current.

Wildfire Recovery Listing Board

CSUSM and Off-Campus Housing 101 have partnered to provide a Wildfire Recovery website (listing board) at http://www.csusm.och101.com/community/index.html. This site creates a venue for individuals to list resources and support they have avialable to those in our campus community who have lost their homes or suffered other losses. Those who have fire-related needs can also post to this website.

Virtual Career Expo Offered

Due to the cancellation of several campus recruitment events last week, the Career Center will host a Virtual Career Expo from November 4 through November 29 via CougarJobs at www.csusm.edu/careers. Students can submit their resumes to the employers who were to visit CSUSM at the Career Expo. Instructions are available to register and submit resumes to the employers. Questions from CSUSM students and employers can be directed to Brenda Dumas, Employer Relations and Events Coordinator for the Career Center at bdumas@csusm.edu or 760-750-4900. Also, a Graduate School Fair will be held in San Diego on November 1, 2008, which is hosted by Idealist.org.

Classes Resume Monday/Resource Tables Available

The campus will reopen and classes will resume on Monday, October 29th. There will be resource tables available in front of University Hall for faculty, staff, and students on Monday and Tuesday, starting at 8 a.m., to provide information on available resources for fire-related issues.

Cal-SOAP Workshop Cancelled

Due to the wildfires and air quality, the Cal-SOAP Application Assistance Workshop scheduled for Saturday, October 27th at CSU San Marcos has been cancelled. The event will not be rescheduled. For additional information, visit www.sandiegocalsoap.com.

Cancellation Notice

5k and Resource Fair Cancelled

The "Because I Care" 5k, Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk, and CSUSM Alzheimer's and Family Caregiver Resource Fair, scheduled for October 28, have been cancelled due to the wildfires.

CSUSM closed

Due to the wildfires, CSUSM is closed through the rest of the week. Plans are to open on Monday 10/29. University Village Apartments remain open. Center for Children and Families will remain closed. All campus activities are canceled until further notice.
